Our name “Sushi Kuuya”

The name of our restaurant, Sushi Kuuya, gets its unique name from a local slang in Hakata, chosen by the chef’s father to honor our chef’s hometown in Fukuoka.

In Japanese, “食うや” (Kūya) is an informal expression often used in certain dialects, particularly in the Kansai region, which includes cities like Osaka and Kyoto. It is a casual way to say “let’s eat” or “eat up.” The standard Japanese equivalent would be “食べよう” (Tabeyou)
